Thoughts On Software Development
Like many others, I use my computer as a means to make my livelihood as well as a means of entertainment, information and communication. The computer has become, for many, something indispensable in their daily lives. I believe that this puts a great responsibility in the hands of software designers and developers - a responsibility to the user. The following are some personal axioms that I tend to live by:
- An application's interface should be transparent between users and the task they aim to complete.
- Users should never have to conform to the way a piece of software is written.
- If an application is counter-intuitive or difficult to use, it is imperative that the software is changed and not the way the user works.
- If there is no time or money to fix this problem, find it or do not release the software.
